The Introduction of My Life
(Image Information: personal photo of myself, July 2018) Hi everyone, my name is Hoai-Quoc Pham. I am a senior studying Microbiology, Pre-Med here at the University of Oklahoma. Fun fact about me is that I love to dance hip-hop. It's been awhile since I did hip-hop in high school, but there were times that I participated in events at OU like Homecoming and it is truly a stress relief when college does kick your butt. I also love to cook and bake and it's funny how my family and friends become so impressed by that. I love to travel, play basketball, and just going out and trying different restaurants like Guy Fieri. My favorite foods are Italian, Thai, and sushi. Recently, I went on a vacation with my family to Cancun and their meals were amazing. The workers there were going nuts by giving away tequila shots on every corner. Last summer, I participated in a study abroad program called Italy 2.0 and I highly recommend it. We studied mostly over the southern coast of Italy l...
Hello Hoai! I had a chance to look through your project website for my project feedback assignment. I really enjoyed looking at your site. The layout is very cool, and I love the picture that you included at the top of your page. I read through your introduction, and it was very fun to read. I liked how you have decided to focus on Ganesha. I do not know much about Ganesha, so this was a great learning opportunity for me. I think it is awesome that he is known for his love of foods. I love food as well. Will your project be focused on his love for food as you progress? I think that would be a cool way to include discussions of different Indian foods throughout the semester. I also enjoyed the last paragraph of your intro. It was quite funny as you can almost picture him walking into preschool. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHi Hoai-Quoc!
ReplyDeleteI just looked at your Indian Epics project website. I must say that I am impressed. The title is really good because it lets the viewer know exactly what to expect. I read your introduction, I found it informative and entertaining. After reading it, I look forward to learning more about Ganesha. The first paragraph gave the reader plenty of information about Ganesha. I can understand why he is a popular God. I will enjoy reading more about him and the foods he likes to eat. Now I want to try modak, because it sounds yummy! Like Ganesha I also love food, especially sweets! Will the rest of your stories carry on the theme of letting readers know about other food that he eats? Will your stories follow Ganesha as he grows up? Since your first story is about him in elementary school, will your second story would be Ganesha in high school? Personally, I would not mind reading about Ganesha going to a college Halloween party. I look forward to reading more.
This sounds like it's going to be a funny and enjoyable storybook. Maybe just set up for the rest of your storybook a little bit more. I didn't know what the story frame really was until the last couple sentences. Also, I feel like some humor would go a great distance with this story idea. Nice job overall!
ReplyDeleteHey Hoai-quoc,
ReplyDeleteGanesha is such a great character and so much that you could great with him. I like how you gave background information on who Ganesha and who he was and what he liked was just incase someone does not know. You gave a really good short and sweet summary of Ganesha. Now looking at your page I really like the way your page is setup. I enjoyed reading more and more of your paragraph as I kept going, it gave me more interesting information on Ganesha and felt like I got to know him better. I also liked the picture that you used, it is a different picture than I have normally seen. Your focus on food for him is a great topic because he really does love his food and all different types of food such as mango as you mentioned in the story of him when he was a kid. Looking forward to reading your story!
Hey there Hoai-Quoc! Im really happy to see that someone chose Ganesha as their story book topic! I am a huge fan, and so I really appreciated your site. I really like how you added some background information on Ganesha, for those who may not know exactly who they are about to read about. I really like the picture that you used for the home page, but I would suggest changing it only because after looking at the other pictures you chose for your page so far, it seems to be a little too serious. Your writing was modern, lighthearted, and fun... and the pictures you chose really reflected that, however, the homepage picture made me think that I was on a completely different site. Overall, keep with that fun, easy to read theme because it works for you and this project! I can't wait to see your project in the future!
ReplyDeleteHi Hoai-Quoc! I was wondering why you decided to use celebrities as Ganesha's family? Was it for humor or something else? I think it would be cool to tell the reader why. The story itself was humorous because of the dialogue between Beyonce and Jackie Chan. I really liked it because it seemed to fit their celebrity personas. However, it does rely heavily on dialogue. Sometimes this can be fine but I would like to see more of your writing skills because you have a really entertaining approach to storytelling! Also, if you are going to keep with the celebrity-family through all the stories, then perhaps you should include that in the introduction so your readers can settle into the idea before and as they read the stories. Also if you are going to continue it, I think it would be better to explain why you have chosen to tell the story in this way.
ReplyDeleteHello Hoai!
ReplyDeleteI got the chance to take a look at your storybook website to complete my project feedback assignment. And I must say I really enjoyed looking through your site! The layout is very interactive and easy to navigate. The picture at the top really sells the page and kind of gives a nice glimpse at what the storybook might be about. I like that the topic of this story book will solely be on Ganesha, as I do not know much about Ganesha I look forward to expanding my knowledge of him. It is pretty crazy and cool that he us known for his love of foods, honestly, he kind of sounds like me. As this story book progresses with it continue to be focused on Ganeshsa and different food items? I really enjoyed the story Ganesha competes for the mango story as it was very entertaining and stuck with the original story very well.
Hey Hoai!
ReplyDeleteYour site is pretty cool! The introduction is super informational and taught me exactly what I needed to know about your story. You did a great job of showing Ganesha's background and where you would be going with your story. The picture at the top really makes me want a mango! It also gives a good image about what Ganesha will be competing for. You really explained Ganesha and it was really cool to see how much you knew. That shows you really put the effort into this story! Did you learn all of this for the story or did you already know about Ganesha? The way your introduction is written seems like you already knew about Ganesha's story, and it made me want to learn more about his story! It had me laughing when you introduced the characters as actual celebrities. Their personalities were hilarious and I could just imagine them saying those things! Great job!
Hello Hoai,
ReplyDeleteI just got a chance to look at your project website again. Like I said before, you have a very cool website layout and topic in general. I read through your story about Ganesha competing for the mangos this time. You do such a great job of drawing your readers in with the very clever and catchy name. Who doesn’t want to read a story with characters named Jackie Chan, Beyonce, and Zac Efron? It is quite comical. The funny love names added yet another layer of comedy to lighten your story. It was also quite adorable that their competition was to show the most love for their mother. It begs the question of who was actually being genuine and who just wanted the food. We know Ganesha loves food as evidenced by the “fat jokes” from Zac Efron. Overall, this story is very clever and your website is looking great!

Hello Hoai -Quoc! I have looked through your storybook and have read your first story! Man Everything looks great! I liked how you used big actors today and transformed them into these new characters that not only relates to food, but the Indian Epics! This was awesome! I also loved the dialogue between the characters! haha I was cracking up reading the conversation between the siblings, it reminds me of my siblings. I can see you put a lot of hard work and imagination into your writing! keep up the good work! I also learned a lot from your authors note! It provided good detail to the original story that helped set the mood for yours. One thing I would potentially add, is more background into Ganesha. However, besides that I think everything was great! Have a great and wonderful weekend, and a great finish to your semester! I look forward to reading more of your stories!
ReplyDeleteYour coverpage is so striking! It’s the perfect setup/photo to introduce the reader to your theme, and I’m really digging the aesthetic!
ReplyDeleteYour intro: Oh man I loved it so much- it’s a cute way to introduce Ganesha as both a revered god and a food-loving elephantine boy. It makes total sense to me that Ganesha is a bit of a cuisine connoisseur. Also, you did a great job describing him from both a physical and a personal perspective. Nice work!
Oh my gosh the vernacular of the royal family cracks me up. “what it tarnation” and “boo”. And the casting choices are cracking me up- what a fun read! Beyonce’s pet names for Jackie Chan are hilarious.
The moral is such a good one: “love isn’t about giving and receiving items”. YES.
Also, your Author’s Note was in great shape, and explained to me very well both the original jataka and the basis of your reimagining within it. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Hoai-Quoc!
ReplyDeleteIt is Mona again, and I just read your story. I just have to say that it is so good! It had me smiling and laughing. I can tell you put a lot of effort into it. The way Queen Beyonce had so many pet names for King Jackie Chan had me giggling when I read it. Also, Ganesha melted my heart a little bit when he told his mom how he felt about her. I was curious about your reasoning for the name changes. I am a fan of Jackie Chan movies, and I am not very familiar with Lord Shiva. I was wondering if you had a specific reason for the name change? Or is it a random thing? The moral of the story is so simple and true. Everyone would do well to remember it. Overall, I think your story is great! I look forward to reading your next one.
Hi Hoai-Quoc. I really love your story site. You have done a great job with it. The pictures you have chosen are fantastic and really add to the story. Your intro is so cute and clever and really sets the scene for the stories you added. You have added so much character into these stories and they are absolutely wonderful. You do a great job with your author's notes at explaining what happened in the original, what you changed, and why you did it this way. I am definitely bookmarking this site, because I want to see what you add next. This is seriously one of my favorite project sites that I have seen so far. Thank you so much for sharing these!
ReplyDeleteHi Hoai-Quoc, I like what you did with the stories. They are very funny and lighthearted. I think you chose a good character to center your stories on; Ganesha just seems like a happy soul. I also liked the messages in your stories; you captured the essence of the original story well too in Ganesha Competes for the Mango. Why did you choose the names of celebrities? Was this to associate their persona's with the characters in your stories? Just curious. Also, why did just the brothers go to dinner? Maybe you could give more background on Ganesha's relationships with his family to develop his character. That might give the story some more depth. Great job!
ReplyDeleteHi Hoai-Quac! I just visited your website and I just want to say it looks really good! I love the banner image you have on your homepage, it is beautiful. I love all of your banner images actually! They're all so pretty and fit the theme of your stories. The intro was very nice! I love that you wrote about Ganesha being a foodie. Moving on to your mango story, I just want to say I laughed quite a bit while reading it! I love the characters you chose to be Ganesha's family! The moment I read all of the names (Jackie Chan, Beyonce, and Zac Efron) I knew this was going to be a fun story to read. The language you used in the story is so fun! "What in tarnation" was hilarious. The fact that Queen Bee kept calling her husband names "boo" and "cookie-lips" was so funny! You've written such great stories and I can't wait to read more from you! Good job!
ReplyDeleteHi Hoai- Quac!
ReplyDeleteYour stories made me chuckle a lot! I liked that your intro provided enough information about Ganesha and some of the specific foods. I think that really set up the way readers understand him in the stories. I enjoyed that you picked very well known celebrities as the other characters in your story. Whenever I would read dialogue by one of the characters I could totally picture that person saying that. Especially that changed the grammar and wording of certain characters to match their real personalities. I liked that while your stories were entertaining and made me laugh they also provided a moral situation. It was great that both stories had a bigger purpose. Your images are great. I really liked the image at the bottom of the second story. I would maybe suggest adding another picture of modaks so readers can really understand what they look it. Overall I really enjoyed your project.
Hi Hoai-Quac! Your introduction was great at introducing me to ganesha. You do a great job of giving me information but not giving the stories away. I also chose to write about food so it was fun reading your stories and seeing your take on it. Your pictures you chose for your storybook are creative and go great with your stories. I really like how you used so much dialogue in your mango story. By using all that dialogue i feel like it really helps the story come to life. It also helps bring out the character's personality, you do a great job of adding humor to your stories but there is also a sense of seriousness that i like as well. The names for the characters you chose made me laugh and it made the story even that much more enjoyable! great job!
ReplyDeleteHey there Hoai,
ReplyDeleteI just got the chance to look at your project for the second time, and just as the first time the layout of your website is very cool, and the banner image really draws the readers in. This go around I read the story about Ganesha competing for the mangos. Right off the bat you did a really great job at drawing the readers in with utilizing very clever and catchy names. The dialogue you used through out the story really drew the reader in to continue reading with an up-beat tempo. And using names like Zac Efron, Jackie Chan, and Queen Beyonce added another layer of great comedy to your story. You did a really great job at following the plot of the original Indian Epic while adding your own fluff and style to the story. This was a great read and I look forward to reading more of yours!
Hey Hoai,
ReplyDeleteYour storybook is nice! The story about Ganesh was very well sought out. I can tell you really put your efforts into writing this story. I like that you brought in modern names as well. Your story was very engaging and easy to read. The dialogues were also very well written. You brought the character's to life and really detailed your story. Great job!
Hey Hoai!
ReplyDeleteI just took a look at your project, and it looks amazing! The banner image of Ganesh on your home page really caught my attention. In fact, I liked how all your images were big because it adds to the aesthetic to your site. I also thought you did a great job on your stories. They were clever and different from other ones I read. I loved how in your stories you used real life celebrates like Jackie Chan or Kim Kardashian. It definitely made the stories more interesting and fun to read. Also, I enjoyed how you wrote your stories. They were funny and kept me wanting to read more. I liked how you used dialogues. That made your story more interesting and engaging. Overall, I thought you did a great job on describing Ganesh and his love for food. I hope your semester ends well and good luck to you!
